An Evening with the Stars
Two Tickets to the New York Film Critics Circle Annual Awards Dinner
January 2024
Founded in 1935, the Circle’s membership, which includes critics from daily newspapers, weekly newspapers, magazines, and qualifying online general-interest publications, votes on awards for the previous calendar year’s films. The Circle’s awards are often viewed as harbingers of the Oscar nominations, announced each February. The Circle’s awards are also viewed, perhaps more accurately, as a principled alternative to the Oscars, honoring aesthetic merit in a forum that is immune to commercial and political pressures, making it a more thoughtful alternative. Past recipients have included Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hanks, James Gandolfini, Martin Scorsese, Jordan Peele and a host of other luminaries.
The evening, held at Tao restaurant/lounge in Chelsea with an interesting décor and pan-Asian food, consists of an open bar cocktail hour while award winners arrive and walk the red carpet -- you will have great viewing of the glitterati from the upstairs bar area – followed by dinner and the awards program. The awards program, date TBD (but typically the first week in January) features presentations by persons meaningful to the award recipients and candid, untimed acceptance speeches from the winners that range from moving to hilarious.
Value: Priceless. Tickets to this event cannot be purchased at any price. You must be a member of or a guest of the Film Critics Circle.
